THE owners of Dumbuck Quarry in Dumbarton are selling the site because it is no longer cost-effective.
Aggregate Industries, earmarked the site for sale in 2011 and the company say it has since been mothballed.
A spokeswoman for the organisation told the Reporter yesterday (Monday): "Having spoken to our estates managers in Scotland I can confirm that the site has been mothballed since 2011, as a result of our ability to deliver cost-effectively and in bulk from our local facility at Duntilland. No changes to employment are therefore expected."
Dumbuck Quarry was a controversial issue not so long ago, when it was once suggested the site might be turned into a landfill site.
However, the spokeswoman for Aggregate added: "As for the question on potential landfill use, converting sites to landfill use is not Aggregate's policy as a company, and has never been considered."
