Loch Lomond Rugby Club minis showed they could have some stars on their hands when they hosted fixtures against Strathendrick, Bishopton and Waysiders at the Dillichip.
The Bonhill club’s P1-3 team had a great turnout of players, the players were split into a barbarians team with some players from the other clubs, and also a Lomond team.
All the games were well contested and the Lomond players showed excellent passing and running to score some great tries..
The Lomond team won all their games on the day.
The P4/5 team welcomed two new players, playing their first games in a Lomond shirt.
From their very first match the team played their usual fast, strong, running rugby, scoring many tries.
They won their matches against Bishopton and Waysiders. The match against Strathendrick was a very close game, with Lomond having to work hard to tackle the Strathendrick players and find gaps to score. The game finished in a 3-3 draw.
A depleted P6/7 team played four tiring games against the visitors.
Lomond played some good rugby at times, the highlight being in the final game when the boys used the width of the park and quick passing to create space for Declan to run it and score.
Indecision at the breakdown and lack of support play led to Lomond being on the back foot a lot of the time.
Despite some strong defending and excellent last gasp tackles by Jaime and Ewan the opposition support play was to prove too good particularly against both Strathendrick teams.
The team drew with Bishopton, beat Waysiders and lost both games to Strathendrick. Despite the lack of players there were positives that could be taken from the games. and with some hard work at training the team will continue to improve.
