Dumbarton United 2005s continued their incredible start to the season with a hard-fought 4-2 win against Broomhill SC.
A lovely summer morning at Dumbarton East End Park was the scene for United’s third league match as they welcomed Broomhill.
United opened their campaign with a 2-1 with away to St. Cadocs United earlier this month and swept aside Johnstone Burgh 5-2 in their second match before continuing that fine form to dig out the win against Broomhill.
It was the home side who started the quickest with some lovely passing play. Reece Beaton found himself in space just wide of the 18 yard box and fired the first shot after nine minutes which was spilled by the Broomhill keeper and cleared off the line before Ryan Murray could get the finishing touch.
Broomhill were awarded a penalty after 15 minutes which was saved superbly by Adam Daly, but Broomhill converted from the follow up to make it 0-1.
Dominic Burns came close for United after 17 minutes with a powerful shot on target before Kristian Zetocha forced another fine save from the Broomhill keeper minutes later.
Burns did however find the target 23 minutes in after a lovely through ball from Jack Hewins gave him time in the box to bring it back to 1-1.
The hosts looked to have taken the lead after Reece Beaton’s chip over the Broomhill defence landed at the feet of Ryan Murray, but he was ruled offside.
Broomhill were awarded a second penalty on the half hour mark and they made no mistake this time, slotting home for a 2-1 lead at the break.
Adam Gow replaced Chris McGroggan after the restart as Dumbarton switched their system to three up to top and Zetocha was sharp as he made use of the extra space to level after 50 minutes.
Substitute Gow then fired Dumbarton ahead for the first time in the match moments later as the hosts started to dominate play.
An outstanding performance from the United defence kept Broomhill at bay as they searched for a way back into the match before a foul on Zetocha an hour in set up a free-kick nicely for Reece Beaten to power home to secure another deserved three points for United.
