TRAFFICE disruption is looming for Balloch next year as Lomond Bridge is set to undergo “extensive” works – while the area is also due for a boost in car parking spaces.
Around six months of works on Lomond Bridge are earmarked to take place, after the 2019 summer season, with its closure for an “extended period of time” expected.
Michael McGuiness, from West Dunbartonshire Council’s economic development department, relayed the news to Balloch and Haldane Community Council (B&HCC) at their meeting this month.

He said: “The bridge is going to have extensive works. Funding has been sorted for the council to repair it.
“There will be disruption – there’s no doubt about it, but we will minimise as best we can.”
Meanwhile, Balloch’s village square will receive additional parking spaces outside retailers, Mr McGuiness continued.
“There needs to be proper parking there while still allowing two-way traffic to move,” he said, assuring again that action would be taken to try and minimise congestion where possible.
“We realise Balloch parking is an issue. Because of what’s going on at the bridge as well we realise traffic will be flowing through there quite significantly.”
And Moss O’Balloch’s car park will also be getting a parking bay boost, with 31 additional spots to be created and “better signs” added before the end of March next year.
Lomond Councillor Sally Page was at the meeting
He explained: “Often it’s the case that visitors don’t know where parking is.”
Lomond Councillor Sally Page asked whether the ground between the road and path would be levelled at Moss O’Balloch. Mr McGuinness said a compromise has been found to cater for access needs.

The community council welcomed the news that the area will receive some additional parking.
But B&HCC chair Murdoch Cameron added: “Let’s face it, it’s going to be very busy.”
