PERMISSION is being sought to install hot tubs at a Dumbarton hotel as part of planned major alterations to the building.
Devilla Property Services is seeking permission from West Dunbartonshire Council to carry out work at the Dumbuck Hotel on Glasgow Road which will see 11 of the current bedrooms sacrificed.
The company wants to carry out alterations and build three two-storey extensions to the building to provide four self-contained holiday let units as well as accommodation for the hotel’s manager.
A statement accompanying the company’s formal planning application says: “The original building has been extended many times over the years to provide additional bedrooms, bars and a large function suite.
“Internally the property has been kept in good condition, but the exterior is tired.
“The Covid pandemic has led people to review the way that they spend vacations. Demand throughout Scotland for self-contained holiday let units is high, with supply not meeting demand.
“The new owners are excited about this, hence the reason to sacrifice some of the letting rooms to holiday let.
“The provision of hot tubs with each of the holiday let units is an added attraction to visitors and has proved a popular asset with this type of development.”
The planning application says the existing function room and its bar and toilet facilities are set to be converted to two three-bedroom self-contained holiday lets, while two proposed extensions to the west side of the building will provide a further two letting units, with 11 of the hotel’s current bedrooms to be sacrificed.
The application says that noise from the hot tubs will be minimised by siting each tub within a deck structure and upon a concrete base.
