AN Alexandria woman was a victim of attempted fraud after a phone scam
On June 23, the woman was contacted by phone from someone saying they were from broadband provider TalkTalk stating there was a problem with her router.
The scammer convinced the female to send photographs of her bank card – front and back.
Following the call, the woman became concerned and contacted her internet provider who confirmed that they had not contacted her.
The victim then cancelled her bank cards and did not suffer any financial loss.
Police Scotland are now investigating the matter as attempted fraud, and have given the below tips on how to prevent being a victim of a scam:
Do not install any apps or enter any details if asked to do so by telephone on your web browsers.
If calls like this are received, hang up immediately, ensure the call has ended (you can try calling 123 or similar to make sure it connects) and then call the provider (i.e. TalkTalk) using a number on your statements.
No Fraud department will ever ask you to transfer funds.
All reports of financial crime should be reported to Police Scotland via 101.
