A FORMER care home that was shut down and earmarked for new flats in Cardross is now on the property market.

Clyde View House Care Home was forced to close in 2018 after the Care Inspectorate successfully sought an emergency cancellation of the operating licence following escalating concerns about how the home was being run.

The inspectors identified “significant concerns” about how residents were cared for, how medicines were managed, the washing and laundering of residents’ clothes, how infection was being prevented, and black mould and damaged plasterwork discovered in rooms, including bedrooms.

At the time, care inspectors said: “What we found in the home at that time was unacceptable.

“We found that our concerns had escalated to the degree we felt there was a risk to the life, health, or wellbeing of residents.”

However, owner Reheela Khan was reported as saying that staff were “sleeping on the job”.

She then sought permission to convert the building into 10 flats, to demolish a 20th-century extension and to build a new extension containing four further flats in its place.

In July 2019, Argyll and Bute Council gave the green light to the proposals, but noted concerns from local residents about the protections of the trees surrounding the property.

However, the property has now landed as an “exciting development opportunity” listing on Clyde Property for offers in excess of £575,000.

Bloomhill, a listed building, is described on the website as a Jacobethan Villa, dating back from 1838.

Estate agents marketing the 20-bedroom home on Carman Road said on Clyde Property’s website: “Over the years, the house has been a family residence and latterly a care home for the elderly.

"Planning permission has been granted for the conversion and redevelopment of the property into ten luxury apartments.”

Each apartment on the website is estimated to cost between £175,000 and £215,000 with the successful owner taking a gross development value of £1.9 million.
