GEILSTON Garden visitors enjoyed a late summer’s day out at the attraction’s latest ‘pop-up cafe’ on Sunday afternoon.

A cake and coffee afternoon visit was accompanied by music, as local groups Helensburgh Oratario Choir, and Helensburgh Beekepers joined the garden charity Friends of Geilston and staff from the garden’s owners, the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).

Lockdown restrictions seemed a distant memory as the unusually warm September weather gave a summery feel to the afternoon, with the beekeepers wowing the visitors with their equipment, and the choir keeping everyone entertained throughout the day.

A Friends of Geilston spokesperson told the Reporter: “There was a wonderful combination of things to enjoy in the garden on Sunday.

“The beekeepers stall was certainly buzzing, with lots of honey and candles sold and a lot of interest in their display of beekeeping equipment.

“The performance by Helensburgh Oratorio was so lovely in the garden setting and the Coffee and Cake stall was busy throughout.

“As ever, the garden was the star of the show, looking fantastic and giving so much pleasure to us all.

“The first Sunday of next month, October 3, will be the Friends of Geilston’s final pop-up cafe of this season.

“We are delighted that Helensburgh Beekeepers will be with us again and that we have a performance by Helensburgh Dorian Choir.

“We will also have a Children’s Trail where children have to find Glorious Gardeners knitted for us by the Cardross Knitting Group - keep watching for information of this event!”

Before then, the NTS itself is hosting a visit to the garden by the Walking Theatre Company, who will stage an open-air performance of Hansel and Gretel this Saturday, September 18 - find out more and book tickets online at bit.ly/hanselandgretelgeilston.
