A BONHILL man who erupted at his partner for spotting her talking to other guests at a wedding has been banned from contacting her for two years.
Christopher Brannan, of Hillbank Street, was with the woman at a reception at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel in Luss on October 9, 2021.
The 32-year-old had been in a relationship with the woman for a year when they went to the wedding, heard Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
At about 11.30pm, Brannan saw his partner speaking with another guest and approached and shouted: “Who the f*** do you think you are? I’ve just went to the toilet and you’re talking to this guy.”
The woman tried to calm things, and a short time later realised the time and that a pre-booked taxi would soon arrive to collect the pair.
She went to her mother’s vehicle, which she was using and was going to leave at the venue.
As she was standing there, Brannan approached, took her mobile phone and threw it away.
He got into the vehicle’s driver’s seat and said: “You’ve made me do this.”
Brannan then stated: “If I can’t have you, no-one can.”
His partner became distressed and then staff approached to say the taxi arrived. But the taxi driver refused to take them, seeing Brannan’s behaviour.
They returned to the mother’s vehicle and Brannan approached the woman, grabbed her hair and forced her into the back seat of the car. The court was told she lay down on the seat crying.
Brannan got in and started to drive. At around 1.10am, police were contacted by staff and arrived soon after.
He refused to give a specimen of breath and was taken to Clydebank police office where he further refused without a lawyer.
Brannan was released the next day on an undertaking to appear at court later. But he was also ordered not to contact his partner.
On November 4, the woman was visited by social workers and said she had received regular text messages from Brannan.
Police confirmed this and that Brannan had also sent a large Moonpig card with an image of Brannan and the woman and a message inside. None of the messages were abusive or threatening.
Brannan later pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath at both the hotel and police station.
He also pleaded guilty to a course of conduct between October 10 and November 4, which was aggravated by involving a partner or ex.
Sheriff Michael Hanlon fined Brannan a total of £900 plus a victim surcharge. He banned him from driving for 16 months but he can reduce that by four months if he completes a drink driving rehabilitation course.
Brannan is banned from contacting his ex for two years under a non-harassment also barred from entering her street in Alexandria.
