A PASSER-BY reported a man to cops during a screaming match with his partner in Bonhill.

Jamie Rodgers, of Wylie Avenue, Alexandria, caused concern to several neighbours during the row as he made threats with a brick on Main Street in the town.

He appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week and admitted the charges of acting in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting and swearing at his partner.

He also pleaded guilty to threatening a witness with a brick, walk in front of moving cars and challenging cops to a fight.

Fiscal depute Rebecca Reid told the town’s court that Rodgers attended his partner’s address on Burn Street in Bonhill on June 11 this year, but an argument soon broke out over the current status of their relationship.

The row continued down the street and was spotted by a passer-by, who contacted the police to report the matter.

He reported that the 34-year-old was shouting at the time but was unable to make out what was said.

As police attended the scene they were approached by several members of the public who told cops that Rodgers was acting aggressively.

Officers attempted to speak with the lout, but he challenged them to a fight instead.

Defence lawyer Scott Adair said: “Since this incident occurred he has been back [at the partner’s house]. He contributes to the relationship that he has. He seems to be in a better place now. Supervision will avoid any repeats of the behaviour with alcohol.”

Rodgers was placed on a community payback order for six months under social work supervision and ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Neil Kinnear said: “This appears to have been a one-off by drinking too much alcohol. I note that you have previous convictions - most of them a long time ago, although you haven’t had any recently.”
