PEOPLE in Dumbarton and the Vale joined those across the country in falling silent at the weekend as they gathered to pay their respects during the area’s Remembrance services.
The events took place across the area on Sunday, November 13, with services in Dumbarton’s Levengrove Park, Old Kilpatrick, Bowling Park, Milton, Renton and Alexandria.
Elected officials were joined by representatives of the armed forces and uniformed organisations, school pupils and members of the public to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The local ceremonies came as commemorations took place across Scotland on Sunday morning, including at Glasgow’s garden of remembrance at George Square, and in Edinburgh outside the City Chambers.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was among many who laid wreaths of poppies at the stone of remembrance at the event, the first such gathering since all Covid restrictions were lifted.
And King Charles III honoured the nation’s war dead for the first time as monarch and laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in London in remembrance of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
