Dumbarton and the Vale could see “significant disruption” later this week, with the Met Office forcasting heavy snow across the area.
A yellow weather warning has been issued and will be in effect from 3am on Thursday, March 9 until 6pm on Friday, March 10.
The warning streatches across most of mainland Scotland, with the region set to see the worst of the weather on Friday.
It is anticipated that many areas will see five to ten centimetres of snow, with some reaching 15-20cm.
Parts of the central belt and the southern Highlands could also see as much as 30 to 40 centimetres in places.
There is also potential for strong winds, which may lead to blizzard conditions and drifting snow.
Yellow weather warnings are also in place in parts of the north of Scotland throughout today (Tuesday) and Wednesday.
Rail and bus passengers could see long delays or cancellations during this period, and some roads may become blocked by deep snow.
The Met Office has also warned that there is a “small chance” that long interruptions to power, gas, water, and telephone coverage could occur.
People are being urged to prepare for the incoming weather, planning their journeys and leaving more time to get where they need to be.
Drivers should also pack essentials in their car and take a fully charged mobile phone, or an in-car charger or battery pack.
