A LUCKY Kiltwalker from Bonhill was left lost for words after she received £30,000 to spend on her dream car.
Alexandria's Iona Laird had no clue that her family had helped make the surprise a reality when she was picked as the first winner of the competition set by Arnold Clark.
The 26-year-old thought she was accompanying her sister Kirsty to Arnold Clark’s Used Car branch in Clydebank to look at a car being purchased by her brother-in-law.
Instead, when she arrived, her family appeared along with two singers performing The Proclaimers’ iconic track, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), and revealed that she had won £30,000 to spend on a car of her choice at the retailer.
Iona completed the Glasgow Kiltwalk’s 23-mile Mighty Stride on Sunday, April 30, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, after the organisation cared for her mum before she sadly lost her life.
Eddie Hawthorne, chief executive and group managing director, said: “It means the world to everyone at Arnold Clark to support Scotland’s communities and do our bit to help others through the Kiltwalk.
"This is the first year we’ve surprised a lucky Kiltwalker with £30,000 for a dream car – and the look on Iona’s face was worth the wait. We look forward to surprising another lucky Kiltwalker later in the year."
Paul Cooney, Kiltwalk CEO, said: “Iona’s hard work walking 23 miles in the rain has paid off in a way that she could never have imagined. Thank you to our headline sponsor, the wonderful Arnold Clark, for the most generous surprise”.
