We delved into the Dumbarton Reporter archives to pick out some of the stories from over a decade ago.

1. Primary seven pupils at Christie park primary were working on getting their John Muir Award. The children set about renovating and improving Christie Park itself with the help of the parks department and the Vale of Leven Academy technical department.
2. The sun shone on the banks of Loch Lomond as thousands flocked to Luss public park for the village’s annual Highland Gathering. Competitors from as far away as Canada joined the action, competing in the heavy events — including the caber toss, weight throw and sheaf toss.
3. Veteran headteacher Jean Robertson Bradley retired after nearly 20 years in the role at St Martins Primary in Renton - and saved the school from closure three times.
4. Pupils at Knoxland Primary had their words of wisdom and inspirational thoughts published in a book. The pupils joined the likes of Dalai Lama whose words also appear in the book.
5. Pupils, mostly from primary six and seven, from Levenvale Primary starred in the school’s version of the musical Oliver which proved to be a challenging and rewarding experience for the cast.
6. After taking on the Great Wall of China, conquering the Grand Canyon and completing another seven overseas charity challenges, Dumbarton policeman Willie Crowe travelled to Morocco to scale the heights of Mount Toubkal.
