JOIN us as we take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what was happening in Dumbarton and the Vale 10 years ago.
We delved into the Dumbarton Reporter archives to pick out some of the stories from over a decade ago.
Here are some photographs from our edition which was published on Tuesday, July 16, 2013.
Do you remember these stories or spot any familiar faces?
1. Locals and visitors alike soaked up the sun across Dumbarton and the Vale as the good weather made an appearance. It was the perfect opportunity to get the kids out and about during the summer holidays.
2. Bellsmyre Development Trust’s summer of fun was in full swing with fun, games and music for all ages. A coffee morning, an acoustic night and a day trip to Largs were some of the activities that took place.
3. Two charities from Dumbarton and the Vale were given a little help with a funding boost of more than £800 raised by a Dumbarton Police Office open day.
The Tullochan Trust and Y-Sort It both work with young people in the area by trying to give them alternative activities so they don’t fall into the trap of drink, drugs and anti-social behaviour.
4. A Castlehill man who took on a challenge of a lifetime to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has spoken of his pride in successfully completing it. Paul Crossan, 35, and a team of 12 travelled 1,500 miles across the UK on motorcycles in a week — through Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
5. A record number of visitors were set to descend to Dumbarton at the end of the month for the annual Scottish Pipe Band Championships. This was the biggest free pipe band competition in the world, and every year, around 25,000 head for Levengrove Park to take in the games in the shadow of the historic Dumbarton Castle.
6. Locals and visitors to the area got the chance to get up close and personal with the area’s emergency crews during an open day. The aim of the event was to promote safety and well-being in the community and provide a wealth of information.
