A Dumbarton dance group received a special visit from the local MSP.
Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton, along with Provost Douglas McAllister made a trip to see the Boogie Box Jive members' dance skills which have been put to good use to raise funds for charity.
Born out of the now-defunct Denny Club more than two decades ago, the group provides jive classes to those aged 14 and over at locations throughout the West of Scotland.
Trained by dance teacher Paul McKenzie, who is certified by the UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance, members of the group have turned their passion into purpose by raising more than £200,000 for charities like the Beatson Cancer Charity, Glasgow Children’s Hospital and Skylark Trust.
Beyond fundraising, the dancers also spread cheer among West Dunbartonshire’s care home residents by putting on performances, including at the council-run Crosslet House Care Home most recently.
The members, who hail from across the West of Scotland, have even showcased their skills for the patients at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital’s stroke and dementia units.
Ms Baillie said: "I was delighted to join Provost Douglas McAllister in visiting Boogie Box Jive’s Dumbarton class and to raise a motion in Parliament recognising the group’s dedication to fundraising and the good work they do for our community.
"I am impressed by the skill of members and their commitment to giving back by providing entertainment for some of the most vulnerable members of society."
