Following a review of the Bellsmyre regeneration project, Caledonia Housing Association has provided tenants and impacted factored owners with an update on the revised plans.

The new proposal aims to deliver the project in a greater number of smaller phases over an expanded time frame, starting with the construction of the 27 new homes in the first phase at Whiteford Avenue.

The makeup of the housing mix has been amended to accommodate tenants living in temporary housing and those in future demolition phases.

A revised plan is being finalised and is set to be submitted to West Dunbartonshire Council in July.

The original plan included the construction of 140 new, affordable, two-storey homes to replace 225 traditional flats.

The new proposal now involves 138 homes.

Julie Cosgrove, chief executive at Caledonia Housing Association, said: "The project team has been working at pace to review and create a new proposal to advance the next phase of the Bellsmyre regeneration programme.

"Our goal at Caledonia is to ensure that we continue to contribute to increasing the supply of quality, affordable housing across Scotland.

“We have continued to engage with our tenants and the community in Bellsmyre to keep them updated on our progress and we hope to receive a positive response from West Dunbartonshire Council once our new proposal has been submitted.”

In the meanwhile, Caledonia is working with contractors CCG to finalise costing for this phase of regeneration, with plans to submit a funding application to the Scottish Government later this year.

Subject to all approvals, construction is expected to begin in early 2025.
