A MAN who pulled a bouncer to the ground and kicked her insisted he wouldn't raise a hand to a lassie.

Jamie Buist, of Caledonia Terrace, Brucehill, reacted violently when someone else was being ejected from a Dumbarton bar last October.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court was told around 11.30pm, staff at Burgh Bar, in the town's High Street, were ejecting another patron when Buist became hostile. He grabbed a member of staff by the hair, pulling her to the ground and kicked her to the body.

Police were contacted and he later pleaded guilty to assaulting a retail worker on October 20, 2023, grabbing her by the hair causing her to fall to the ground and kicking her on the body.

At his sentencing on July 16, the 37-year-old's defence solicitor clarified it was a security officer outside the pub, but added: "Not that it makes any difference."

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said Buist told social workers: "He would never raise his hand to a lassie."

He observed that was "technically true" because he pulled her to the ground.

The man's solicitor said: "He had very little recollection of exactly what happened, but CCTV was disclosed."

Sheriff Hendry said: "Your record is of great concern to the court. An alternative [to custody] is available today, largely because of the gap in offending."

He put Buist on a community payback order with 18 months of supervision by social workers. He is required to take an alcohol and/or drug counselling or treatment they direct.

And he must also do 120 hours of unpaid work in the community within a year.

The sheriff added: "Any future repetition of this type of offence, I don't think the court will give you any further opportunity."
