A five-star luxury hotel has been praised for its sustainability efforts.

Cameron House, which is located on Loch Lomond, has been given the Gold Award by Green Tourism for its efforts to be environmentally friendly.

The hotel, which is set on 400 acres of Scottish countryside, was praised for its commitment to sustainable practices.

Jim Brown, director of estates and sustainability at Cameron House, said: "All at Cameron House are delighted to be recognised for our commitment to sustainability.

"We are incredibly proud to be presented with a Green Tourism Gold Award and we acknowledge our continuing responsibilities to share and support the best green practice where possible."

Other changes include the installation of more than 30 electric charging stations, the introduction of electric fleet vehicles, and a salary sacrifice scheme for senior employees to drive electric cars.

The resort also recycles mixed plastics and cardboard, diverts 99 per cent of waste from landfill, and focuses on locally sourced produce across its bars and restaurants to reduce food miles.

Andrea Nicholas, CEO of Green Tourism, said: "The commitment to sustainability is so clearly part of the DNA of Cameron House, delivered by a passionate team and fully supported by top management.

"This has resulted in a wide range of green measures being successfully implemented at the hotel which do not distract from the luxury or comfort of a guest’s stay, but instead enhance and complement the hotel’s beautiful heritage, culture, and wonderful natural surroundings."
