A hairdresser has won an award for his skills in the salon a year after opening his own business.
Dylan Kennedy from Dylan's Hair Den in Alexandria, has won two awards at the UKhairawards and GGBeauty Awards 2024.
The 27-year-old came in second for Colour Technician of the Year and won overall for Scotland in the competition this year.
He opened his store on Main Street in early 2023 and works in the salon with fellow hairdresser Tina.
He said: "It was mental, I was talking to my mum the day before I found out and I said 'I won't be getting anything but it’s worth a go.'
"The next day, I was just sitting in the house bored and I thought I would go for a drive.
"I was sitting in the car up at Duck Bay. My dad passed away three years ago and we've got a wee plaque and a tree there.
"I was sat and I just remembered ‘Oh, those awards were tonight.’"
He then went online to see his name in the list of winners.
Dylan has been a hairdresser for 11 years and became self-employed in 2019. He says his business was growing to a point that he said 'it's now or never' to owning his own salon.
Since then Dylan says he has been rushed off his feet with customers.
He added: "It's been amazing, I am booked out for four and five weeks in advance.
"I've been doing it for 11 years, but I've only had the business for a year and a half, so it's been a good kickstarter for us.
"I've got another hairdresser, Tina, she's fantastic. I've been looking for other hairdressers to come in and rent chairs, so hopefully this helps.
"I'll apply for this again next year and go for the top spot this time."
