An ex-Rangers star has been arrested after a woman died following being 'hit by a car' in Rutherglen.

Victoria Cairns, from Glasgow, was hit by an orange Mistubishi L200 pick-up on Farmeloan Road at around 8pm on Saturday, November 2.

The 40-year-old was then rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

We previously reported that she was fighting for her life following the crash.

However, Victoria sadly passed away on Wednesday, November 6.

A 33-year-old man, understood to be ex-Gers footballer Kyle Hutton, was arrested and charged in connection with alleged road traffic offences.

He was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, November 4.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said they received a report concerning a 33-year-old in connection with an alleged incident on Saturday.

They revealed he was liberated from custody and did not appear in court. The COPFS said the case remains live and under consideration.

The footballer made his professional debut for the Glasgow side in the opening Scottish Premier League match of the season in August 2010.

He played with Rangers until 2015.

A spokesperson for the COPFS said: “The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning a male aged 33 years in connection with an alleged incident on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

“The accused was liberated from custody and did not appear in court.”  

“The case against the accused remains live and under consideration.” 

Following the tragic incident, cops are urging anyone with information on it to get in touch.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this difficult time.

"They have asked that their privacy is respected.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and I would again ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: "Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 3542 of November 2, 2024."
