A group of 23 volunteers helped tidy up the Tom Weir mountain garden in Balmaha.

The 'Make a Difference' day, organised by Friends of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, took place on November 20.

The volunteers planted 150 heathers and cleaned up the garden and its surroundings.

John Urquhart, chairman of the Friends, said: "We would like to thank each of the volunteers for all their hard work and the National Park Authority for providing tools and equipment.

"We would also like to thank the Oak Tree Inn who kindly provided a much-appreciated lunch which was enjoyed by all.

"The litter-picking equipment was not needed as there was hardly a scrap of litter to be found."

The Friends received a Volunteering Matters Action Earth Grant, funded by Naturescot, to pay for the new plants.

After lunch, John led some of the volunteers on a guided walk along the West Highland shore-side path, returning to Balmaha over the Druim Nan Buraich.

The Tom Weir's Rest picnic site has been open for ten years, and some of the wooden interpretation panels are starting to rot.

The Friends are planning to replace these and are applying for funding to do so.

Donations towards replacing the panels or memberships to the Friends, starting from £20 per year, can be made via the website at lochlomondtrossachs.org.uk.
