The Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank) and Skylark IX Recovery Project are inviting the public to help shape a new exhibition.

The 'Denny Social' exhibition will celebrate the social life and history of Dumbarton's William Denny & Brothers Shipyard.

A community ideas session will be held at the museum on Castle Street, Dumbarton, from 11am to 2pm on December 4.

This session is open to anyone interested in contributing to the exhibition.

The 'Denny Social' exhibition will be displayed in the museum, which is located on the site of the former shipyard, from spring next year.

Jennifer Pless, community engagement and development officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “After the fantastic response to our Brew and Blether memory sharing sessions earlier this year, we know that there’s a terrific appetite amongst the community for remembering, preserving and celebrating the significance and impact of the Denny Shipyard.

“From dances and football games to trips to the bowling green, choirs and theatrical performances and more, we want to capture the mood of optimism and community at the Shipyard which thrived from 1844 to 1963.

“At the community ideas session, we hope to hear what everyone would like to see and even help create for the exhibition as well as stories they’d like to share.

“You don’t need to have any history with Denny’s Shipyard to be involved."

The Denny Social exhibition builds on the success of the museum’s Brew & Blether sessions at the Denny Tank earlier this year as well as the recent ‘Shipyard Social’ and ‘Secret of Success’ exhibitions at the museum’s other site in Irvine, Ayrshire.
