The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for parts of Scotland.

The national weather service has put in place the warning from 9 pm on Wednesday night until 6 am on Thursday.

It has forecasted heavy rain this evening, continuing at times overnight which may lead to some disruption in places.

What to expect from the yellow rain warning

The Met Office has told us to expect the following:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus services are probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

What areas in Scotland will be affected by the yellow weather warning?

These are the areas in Scotland that are covered by the yellow warning:

Central, Tayside & Fife

  • Angus
  • Dundee
  • Fife
  • Perth and Kinross

Grampian

  • Aberdeenshire

The Met Office says that the showers will merge into some longer spells of rain across parts of eastern Scotland on Wednesday evening and then again overnight.

You should also expect rain to turn heavy in places, with 10-20 mm possible in one hour, and very locally 40 mm in 3-6 hours.

It should be noted that not all places in the warning area will see these amounts.
