Renton Bowling Club 39 Renton BC members took to the green on Saturday to play for the Willie Cavan Memorial Trophy. After the round-robin stage of the tournament, the four teams who qualified for the semi-final were Michael Roberts, Ian McCallum and Jim Daly(s); John Taylor, Frank McCallion, John McCarry and Stevie McArdle(s); Andrew McCallion, Denis McLaughlin, Tommy Pender and Michael Cavan(s) and Brian McNeil, Tom Fraser, Jamie Daly and Graham Connell. The semi-final stage saw Jim Daly's team beat Stevie McArdle's rink, and Michael Cavan and his team were victorious over the four skipped by Graham Connell. After a final which produced a very high standard of bowling, considering the time of year, it was Jim Daly's team who managed to claim a 7-3 victory and lift the trophy. Victory for Ian McCallum meant that he became the first player to win the trophy for a second time.

Dumbartonshire Bowling Association Under-25 Trial The Dumbartonshire BA held their under-25 team trial last week at the Rock BC with 32 players battling it out for 24 spots in the team. After 12 ends of play, manager Jimmy Dalziel (Kirkintilloch) sat down with the other 'Blue Blazers' to cut 32 down to 24. The team for the first game was announced as follows: Rink One: R. Ward, J. Deacon, G. Ansari and S. Cunningham(s).Rink 2 - A. Air, P. Cavana, G. Brown and R. O'Malley(s). Rink 3 - R. Sharpe, R. Hughes, M. Hughes and S. Fernie(s). Rink 4 - L. Campbell, D. MacMillan, M. Connolly and A. Byron(s). Rink 5 - A. Calder, S. Baxter, S. Dow and A. Barrie(s). Rink 6 - J. O'Hora, T. Allan, P. Kane and K. Anderson(s). Reserves - K. Ward, C. Mair, A. Leishman and S. Paterson. The team selected will take on Stirlingshire BA at Milton of Campsie BC on Sunday, May 5.

Rock BC Open Pairs Rock Bowling Club welcomed clubs from all over central Scotland for their Open Pairs competition sponsored by Robert Collins and Tommy Vallance of Chambers Glaziers on Saturday, April 27.

After a very competitive day's bowling between 24 teams, the section winners were David Hislop and Willie Boyle from Rock, James Crichton and Irwin Barnes Jnr from Vale of Leven, Alan Barrie and Elliot Reid from Westermains and Gary Millington and Scott Meechan from Kirkintilloch.

The semi-finals saw the Rock team, skipped by Willie Boyle, defeat the Vale pair in a close game 4-3.

The second semi-final was won comfortably 4-1 by the holders skipped by Elliot Reid.

The final was an extremely close game with the Rock pair 5-2 up playing the last end only for the holder Elliot Reid to score four shots on a measure to defend his title 6-5.
