LOCH Lomond Rugby Club’s S1/S2 side came through a tight contest with Strathaven to claim a 28-24 win on Sunday.
Strathaven, as the away side, took the kick off to start the game.
Will collected the ball, and drove into Strathaven’s half, only to be stopped by a strong defensive line.
Lomond soon started to show glimpses of attacking play with Patrick unlucky not to break free from a last gasp tackle.
From a loose pass, Strathaven managed to break through Lomond’s defence, only to be stopped by brave try saving tackle by Minimunn. From the resulting line out, Strathaven managed to break free and run in for the first try. The conversion was missed to make the score 0–5.
From the kick off, Lomond pressed Strathaven, starting to pass the ball to try to stretch Strathaven’s defence. Patrick pick up the ball and went on a mazy run only to caught by a saving tackle, but Lomond managed to retain procession with support play by Craig and Aidan.
Following some even play, Minimunn broke free, and released the ball to Josh who showed a great turn of pace to run in Loch Lomond’s first try. Minimunn converted the conversion to make it 7–5.
Both teams continue to trade blows in an even game, with both teams playing positive rugby. It was Strathaven who scored their second try before the break, with Lomond unlucky with a break of the ball from a last-gasp tackle. The conversion was missed.
Strathaven missed the kick to move 7–10 in front.
Play continue to be even between the teams, in the middle period until A loose pass by Lomond was picked up by a Strathaven player which led to a to surge forward. Whilst initially stopped by Lomond, Strathaven ran in their third try. The resulting kick was converted to make the score 7–17.
Lomond continued to press. Minimunn picked the ball up a pass from Josh and he weaved through the Strathaven’s defence to score Lomond’s second try. The kick was converted to make the score 14–17.
Strathaven managed to get another try despite some brave tackling from Lomond. The kick was converted to end the second period 14–24.
Strathaven started the final period with Lomond collecting the ball and kicking forward to put Strathaven under pressure.
Both teams continued to press, with the away teams defence under pressure with Patrick coming close again before Josh then collected the ball out wide to run in for his second try. Minimunn scored the conversion from a difficult angle to make it 21-24.
From the kick off, Strathaven pushed Lomond, but Lomond’s defence held firm, kicking the ball clear to evaluate the pressure.
As play continued, Lomond started to push Strathaven back, moving the ball quickly to try to stretch the opposition’s defensive line. Craig picked up the ball and drove through to score a well-deserved try. The kick was converted to make the score 28-24.
With the game nearing its end, Lomond continued to pile pressure on a tiring Strathaven team with Minimunn and Patrick going close again before the final whistle.
Lomond’s training is at Vale of Leven Academy at 6pm until 7pm on Wednesday night.
