Dumbarton manager Stevie Farrell admits it was an all too familiar tale for his side as they were held to their fifth successive League One draw against Kelty Hearts on Saturday.

It’s the first time in the clubs history they have drawn five league games in a row as Sons battled back from a goal down on two occasions to earn a point.

Luke McCarvel put the away side ahead in the opening 10 minutes with the hosts finally getting on level terms through captain Mark Durnan;s header on the stroke of half-time.

Craig Johnston restored Kelty’s lead just before the hour with skipper Durnan netting his third goal in as many games to earn his side a point on 89 minutes.

Sons have came from behind to earn a draw in all five of their League One matches so far but missed chances have prevented them from picking up their first three points of the season.

Faz accepts that his side are going to concede chances with the way they approach games and hopes that their pressure in the final third soon results in victories.

Speaking post-match, he said: “We should have won the game. I don’t want to be disrespectful to Kelty but they came up the park three times in the whole game. [Dumbarton goalkeeper] Brett Long hasn’t laid his hands on the ball all second-half.

“We were magnificent in terms of the game but I’m gutted with the goals we lost because I think they were poor.

“I understand the way we play by getting people forward then we are always going to be susceptible to the counter and teams will do that, but with the amount of chances we are creating we’re scoring two but should be scoring four or five and it was the same last week.

“It must be a joy as a fan to watch this team. We’re one of the highest scoring teams in this league and have the most touches in opposition boxes.”

Sons are on cup duty this weekend with another long away day on the cards as they travel to Peterhead in round three of the SPFL Trust Trophy.

Farrell will use the tie as an opportunity to hand out minutes to those who have struggled for game time in recent weeks and hope the clash can help get forward Joel Mumbongo up to full fitness.

He said: “Joel probably isn’t ready for 90 minutes – he is getting a new job next week and needs to relocate so he has only been training on a Thursday night.

“We need to be careful with him because he is a big powerful lad but we need to watch his minutes or he’ll end up pulling hamstrings and doing all sorts.

“There are guys like David Wilson, Ryan Blair, Greig Young as well, we need to try get them minutes and we will get some game time to people next week.”
