Dumbarton manager Stevie Farrell was left scratching his head after his side suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday.

An early first half goal from Kane Hester – the only effort on goal from the visitors all afternoon – brought Sons run of six consecutive draws to start the campaign to an end.

The hosts dominated in all areas of the stats, apart from the one that matters the most, with 11 shots on goal throughout the afternoon and 15 corners to the Mo’s zero.

After going unbeaten throughout their first six games, the loss leaves Dumbarton in second bottom of the League One table but Faz is convinced that his side's luck in front of goal will turn.

Speaking post match, he said: “In my managerial career at any level it is the biggest doing we have ever given a team. They were in our box and had one shot.

“Everybody is upset in the dressing room but I just stay flatlined because if my teams keep playing like that we will be just fine.

“We’ve had three cleared off the line in the first half, two in the second, Joel [Mumbongo] has a good header, [Michael] Ruthy has his one v one.

“The goal disappoints me because we spoke about Hester living in that right channel and we worked on it. If he doesn’t get in there in the first 10 minutes then the worst we get is a draw so it’s a hard one to take.

“We’re second bottom of the league and the reality is we don’t deserve to be, we should probably be in the top four.

“I’d be more worried if the performances weren’t there – we’ve come into League One and we are a different animal to what we were last time we were here.

"If we keep playing and keep believing in our journey then we will pick up points, there’s no doubt about it.”

Sons travel to Dumfries on Saturday to take on Queen of the South.
