Dumbarton manager Stevie Farrell believes his side are starting to get what they deserve after a 3-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle made it back-to-back League One victories.

A brace from James Hilton and Ryan Blair’s first of the season secured three points for the Sons as they heaped further misery on the Caley Jags who were entered into administration just a few days prior.

Hilton scored a peach with a left-footed half-volley from 20 yards that whistled into the top corner for the opener in the first 15 minutes before Jake Davidson bulleted in a header to equalise before the interval.

Blair regained the lead for the hosts after the hour with a composed finish following his own corner kick and Hilton sealed the points when he drilled into the net from outside of the area 10 minutes later.

The result follows Dumbarton’s success by the same victory at Gayfield against Arbroath the following week and whilst they remain second from bottom in the League One table, Sons are just five points off this weekend's opponents, Cove Rangers, who occupy top spot.

Faz insists his side were hard done by in the first few weeks of the season as they dominated matches without finding a victory and puts the change in fortune down to being tougher to break down.

Speaking post match, he said: “We were excellent from start to finish and the only disappointing thing in the whole day was the goal we conceded from the corner.

“We’re trying to set high standards in terms of what we do and I think Brett [Long] has had one save in the whole game and apart from that we’re not giving up many chances.

“The performance going up the pitch and our structure was very good. As a Dumbarton fan it must be magnificent to watch because we look a goal threat and we’re scoring goals.

“I remember a season in League One where Dumbarton scored 14 goals in a full season so it’s good to watch.

“In the early part of the season we worked on how good we were going forward but over the last two or three weeks we’ve been looking for that balance on the training pitch.

“The boys are working really hard, but we’ll not get carried away. We’ve had two brilliant results to put us back in the pack.

“Apart from the Stenhousemuir game the other 10 performances have been very good and we haven’t got what we deserved. The first six or seven performances was better than what we had today.

“We’re getting our rewards now and if we keep believing in what we believe in and doing what we do and shut out the outside noise then we’re capable.”

Hilton is now on six goals for the season with both of his strikes coming in style.

Farrell has come to expect that type of quality from the tricky attacker and knows he would attempt his efforts even on the biggest stage.

He said: “It’s just what James Hilton does. He’s the type of kid that believes in his ability and backs himself so much.

“He’s a boy that tries things, he doesn’t care where he plays – he would try it at Ibrox or Parkhead. The second goal is actually better than the first because it comes at the end of a great move.

“Ryan Blair is really composed with his goal, it would have been easy for him to slash at that but he picks his spot and does really well.”
